Dryridge Estate, Megalong Valley

Updated: Sep 22, 2024

This little film contains highlights of our winter holiday to Dryridge Estate in the Megalong Valley. The property is located two and a half hours west of Sydney, nestled in the Blue Mountains. It's a working vineyard, and we arrived on a Sunday afternoon just in time to try some of their excellent wines. However, for the rest of the week there were only a few people.

It was so peaceful - exactly what we needed.

The house, and a smaller cottage are available on Airbnb. We booked the house to have some extra space. Between camera gear and our two puppies, Lola and Honey, we had more than enough room. It is comfortable and homely, with a great kitchen. Everything is provided except food, which is available from Blackheath as you drive through.

The bull blocking the driveway was a conundrum for us. We're city folk and know all the stories about aggressive bulls. We honked. We inched closer. My partner shouted out the window at it. The look if indefference we received gave us enough comfort to creep past, ready to go much quicker if needed.

Being the film nerd, the week was a chance to try some new gear and techniques. For the other gear nerds out there, this is what I used:

  • Fujifilm X-T30 ii with the kit 18-55mm lens.

  • Atomos Ninja V recording 10-bit 4:2:2 F-Log from the X-T30 ii.

  • Apple iPhone 15 Pro, timelapse and native video.

  • Blackmagic Camera app recording Apple Log.

  • Davinci Resolve 18

  • iZotope Ozone 11
